Women choose UFE once medication has failed to treat their fibroids and their doctor has recommended surgery. Since UFE is a safe and effective alternative to surgery, preserves the uterus, and provides a shorter recovery period, many women are finding this non-surgical procedure to be a preferable choice. The majority of women who select UFE treatment are over 35 years old and have already had children. Women who still want to have children may choose UFE treatment, but their fertility cannot be guaranteed. There have been many documented cases of successful pregnancy and delivery after UFE. No cases have been reported of UFE causing infertility. Still, the procedure is a fairly new treatment for fibroids, and there is currently not enough data to eliminate the possibility of risks for childbearing.
